What is a Lawyer?
Lawyers also known as attorneys play very important role in the criminal justice system. Imagine trying to decipher a legal document without the help of an attorney. Maybe, just maybe, they make these documents so complicated so we will always need them :-)
But all jokes aside, the criminal justice system will be crippled
without the help of lawyers. They are needed to craft and make sense of
legal documents. Lawyers or attorneys as they are also known perform the
1. Defend an Accused Person in Court
2. Sue Another Person or Entity on Behalf of Their Client
3. Prepare Mortgage Papers
4. Prepare Loan Documents
5. Represent Tenant or Landlord in Tenant/Landlord Dispute
6. Represent Clients in Divorce Proceedings
7. Help in Drafting and Executing Will
8. Help in Drafting Contracts
9. Help in Patent Applications
Typically a lawyer will specialize in a certain area of law. Some of the specializations are corporate law, family law, patent law, environmental law, tax law, etc.
A great number of attorneys are in private practice. The profession does lend itself to this. This is partly because you don’t have a lot of expensive equipments to buy to set up shop. You will need to open an office where you can receive clients.
